TWO women have won their bid to take control of Rain-o-Rama, the Diego Martin property that was the home of deceased calypso icon Aldwyn “Lord Kitchener” Roberts and in which his family still resides. This is according to an attorney who acted in the women’s interest during a long-standing case that concluded yesterday afternoon. As a result, those currently occupying the property, including Valerie Green, the former wife of Road March king Roberts, will have to vacate the premises by November 30, according to the ruling made by Justice Nadia Kangaloo. Attorney Colin Selvon, acting on behalf of Susan Gittens and Charmaine Kumar, who are the sisters of deceased Betsy Ann Howell-Pollard, the alleged mistress of the calypsonian, said the judge gave her oral ruling in the case yesterday afternoon. The court heard that when Howell-Pollard died in 1998, she had passed on the property, located on Diego Martin Main Road, to her sisters, Gittens and Kumar.
