Music CampCasablanca Steel Orchestra's Music Literacy Programme
Location: Casablanca panyard, 31 Belmont Circular Road, Belmont.
Ages: all ages, all levels
  • May 24 to August; Saturday @ 10am;
  • Musical director of the programme is Earl Caruth who will teach students to read, write, and play a musical instrument. So far 40 students have registered and more are being urged to embrace the opportunity which is free on Saturdays at 10 am.

  • Augustus Mark, manager of Casablanca, said the programme will be run right through the August holidays.

  • Children’s Theatre WorkshopTrinidad Theatre Workshop, founded by Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott
    Ages: 8 to 12 years old
  • July 14 to August 2; Mondays to Fridays from 9.30 am to 2 pm at the Playwright’s Theatre on Jerningham Avenue, Belmont.
  • The camp will be training young actors, singers, dancers and stage crew for theatre. (Committed to training on- and off-stage professionals)
  • The camp has daily tours on its schedule to such places as the Pitch Lake, Asa Wright Centre, the Wild Fowl Trust, Devil's Woodyard Mud Volcano, the Military Museum, the Amerindian Village at Calvary Hill, Mt Saint Benedict and a soft hike along the Hummingbird Trail.
  • What’s different about this camp? Children won’t just learn how to be better performers, but will also have the opportunity to learn about the technical aspects of a production. Some children love to be in the spotlight, while others may want to learn how to create one. Under the guidance of experienced, degree-certified tutors, your child can choose to learn about Makeup and Costumes, Set Design, Props, Sound and much more. At the end of the camp, the children will stage a production of their own.

  • Attendees will be addressed on topics such as Youth Increase — Financially, Spiritually and Morally; the Sports Industry and Our Youth; Youth and Wealth — Myth Or Reality; Empowerment Through Education; Mental Health and Fitness; Understanding the Generation Gap; Entertainment Industry — the Role of Music; Let’s Talk About Sex — Soul Ties, Relationships and Marriage; and much more.

  • Sports CampTTOC Youth Camp (Trinidad & Tobago Olympic Committee)

  • Participants are exposed to topics as varied as singing, dance, goal-setting, conflict resolution, basic exercise physiology and sports nutrition.
  • Baal Ramdilla Vacation CourseKendra
    Ages: 5 to 17 years old
  • July 7 to August 16
  • Mondays to Fridays from 9 am­5 pm
  • Location: Hindu Prachar Kendra, Raghunanan Road, Enterprise
  • It is designed to deliver the sanskaaras of family values, spiritual and social conscience, civic responsibility, cultural confidence and self expression.
  • Ten trained teachers, including four teachers trained in India, will participate in the course. Participants will be exposed to performing arts, Ramcharitmanas Katha, yoga, group activities, selected films, group dynamics, Ramdilla arts, music, dance movements, techniques for successful studentship and drills.
  • Requisition: Exercise book, pen or pencil, crayons or coloured markers, large towel or exercise mat, two nutritious snacks per day.
  • Course: Daily lunch—vegetarian meals are prescribed during the course — as well as performance opportunities and a certificate at the conclusion of the course. The course is free with a registration charge of $35.

  • The young bakers are under the able tutelage of chef Selwyn Wickham, manager of Petrea's Place, and facilitator at the T&T Hospitality and Tourism Institute in Tobago.
  • Young campers are learning more about royal icing, gum paste and sugar decorating.
  • Youngsters are also mastering the art of baking bread, cookies, cakes and muffins at the camp.

  • Holistic camp (Camp-Edu-Eco-Tech)Forde College
    Ages: 7 to 16 years of age
  • Cost: $995
  • Dates: July 14 - August 22 (duration six weeks)
  • Venue: Petrea's Place, Petrotrin Camp, Point-a-Pierre.
  • In addition to the usual academic focus, this year, the camp highlights eco awareness, with nature treks, including a trip to the St Ann's Reforestation Project, leisure activities and creativity workshops.
  • John Stollmeyer, who heads this project, will instruct young campers about reforestation. Campers are also anticipating geographic awareness (headed by the Meteorological Office) and recycling workshops (conducted by SWMCOL).
  • Troy Hadeed, owner of Mystic Hemp, will also host a workshop on ways to reduce global warming.
  • Campers are participating in historical re-enactments of crucial events in T&T's history. Under the tutelage of Trinidad Theatre Workshop staff, campers will re-enact the Charlie King riots, which will be showcased at the camp's graduation ceremony.
  • The camp also features self-esteem and etiquette workshops, equipping youngsters with much needed life skills.
  • Campers also are learning to make origami (Japanese art of paper folding) and rotocopters (flying objects made from folded paper). Forde emphasised that recycled paper is used for these paper constructions. This part of the camp also features Totally Gross Science and Crime Lab, which teaches participants basic detective techniques.
  • Forde College offers, among the regular leisure activity fare, self-defence classes, tai chi and educational video games.
